Renaissance-frieze *

On Plate the simple pattern and the beginning of the frieze for easy repositioning

The acanthus frieze comes from a decorative border drawn by Florio Vavassore (XVI century) for a book frontispiece. Little information reached us about the author and the date of this work , but we know he exercised his talent for the printer Soncinus in Fano, Italy. His brother Andrea Vavassore is better known because he helped by his engraved work to disseminate the Moorish motifs throughout Europe.

The pattern is suitable for:
- Monochrome,
- Monochrome accentuated by the work of shadows and light by choosing a luminous orientation,
- Polychrome, each element being hidden at the application of colors; the work of shadows and light is possible once the pattern is dry .

Art-nouveau-vienne-bruxelles

Ce motif provient d’une affiche d’exposition universelle organisée dans la capitale belge en 1897. L’architecte Otto Wagner, un des piliers de la Sécession viennoise, y découvre l’Art nouveau belge mêlant style géométrique et esprit japonisant.

The frieze is a repeating pattern of ovals to a length of 58 cm and contains at least two eggs and two triangles.

The frieze ovum, inherited from Greek art, is found from the first Pompeian style. We find it in the Villa Arianna at Stabiae not far from Pompeii.

The frieze is a repetition of the basic pattern up to 58 cm in length or is at least a repetition of two.

This frieze is extracted from a model of entablature of the Corinthian  of a collection of engravings of the seventeenth century. The collections of prints reproduced the architectural decorations found in the ancient Greek and Roman art.

Frieze-palmette-pompei **

Minimum pattern size: height 10 cm
width = height / 1.4
(for one palmette of the frieze)

The frieze is a repeating pattern of palm leaf up to 58 cm long and has at least two units.

The frieze of palmettes from the entablature framing the painted panel "death of Icarus under the helpless eyes of Daedalus" of the Imperial villa of Pompeii. The villa is characteristic of the 3rd Pompeian style with large flat surfaces and brightly colored columns with tapered barrels often vegetated. The fresco of the Imperial Villa, motif-palmette-pompéi (see below) takes place above the frieze.
