The patterns provided are from marble inlays decorating the small temple of the Rucellai chapel (1467) in the church of Saint Pancrazio (Florence). This church was built for Giovanni Paolo Rucellai, a wealthy Florentine merchant, in the proportions of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem. It is the work of Leon Battista Alberti.
Its marquetry decoration of black and white marble is based on simple geometric shapes (square, circle, triangle) that induced, Alberti according, to meditate on the mysteries of faith. Each inlaid circle represents the emblem of rich representatives of the time of Rucellai, for example the three intertwined rings of Lorenzo de 'Medici, sailing into the wind with the shrouds released from Rucellai.
We selected these patterns because of their extraordinary quality of plastic and their very high homogeneity that can allow the use of all at once, in one place. One can thus obtain a decoration both homogeneous and varied ... Double-quality difficult to obtain when assembling designs!
